Symmetrization after breast reconstruction

The ultimate goal of breast reconstruction is to create a breast that's symmetrical with the opposite breast. But in some instances, the reconstructed breast doesn't quite match-up in size or shape to the natural remaining breast. This is more often apparent with implant-based reconstructions and so in these cases, a symmetrization would be necessary.

When's the best time to go for a symmetrization procedure?

As the reconstructed breast will undergo some changes within the first 3 months, any additional surgery must wait until after then. It's true that some surgeons prefer to conduct a symmetrization procedure at the time of breast reconstruction - the advantage being that after initial surgery, no additonal procedures would then be necessary. But, it should be kept in mind that a certain degree of asymmetry will remain.

What kind of symmetrization procedures are possible?

Breast Lift, Breast Reduction or Breast Augmentation
